Congressman Garamendi Announces 3rd District U.S. Service Academy Entrants
Vacaville, CA—Congressman John Garamendi (D-Davis, Fairfield, Yuba City) held a reception this week honoring 10 students from the 3rd Congressional District whom he nominated and have been accepted into one of the nation's five military service academies.
The academies, which include The United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, and the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, are amongst the most prestigious universities in the country. They have a long standing tradition of excellence in education, service and integrity.
"Each year I have the privilege of nominating a select group of young men and women to the service academies," said Garamendi. "Our nation's military service academies have a long tradition of excellence in education, service, and integrity, and I am proud to have such remarkable nominees represent the Third Congressional District. I salute our 2019 nominees and thank them for their commitment to our country."
The young men and women competing for nominations this year include an outstanding group of individuals. While all applicants demonstrated the dedication, courage and aptitude necessary to excel at an academy, only the most qualified individuals are able to receive a nomination each year. Nominations are based on a "whole person" evaluation. Applicants must demonstrate academic strength, involvement in extra-curricular activities, leadership skills, physical aptitude, moral character and a desire to serve their country as a member of the United States Military.
