Coast Guard and Maritime Subcommittee

Congressman Garamendi is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation. Each year, Garamendi works with Subcommittee Chairman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) to pass legislation that gives the Coast Guard the resources they need to perform its dual role with both the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense. Garamendi's priorities include funding the building of new heavy and medium icebreakers to support the Coast Guard's mission in the Arctic region.

Garamendi also is dedicated to advancing the interests of America's vital maritime industry. He has authored legislation to require that shipments of strategic energy exports be carried on U.S.-flag ships manned by American crews and built in the United States. He is also a champion of the Jones Act, and fights against any efforts to weaken the cabotage laws that keep America a seafaring nation.

Garamendi has also authored a report on the priorities of the Northern California Maritime Industry, which you can download below.
