Dear Friends,

In early November, I entered Congress as the new representative in the 10th Congressional District. It is a tremendous honor to represent you, and I want you to know that my office doors in Walnut Creek, Fairfield, Antioch, and Washington, DC are always open to constituents like you. I have been hard at work in my first days on the job, making sure you are immediately represented by a leader who is engaged in DC and back home.

Earlier in the month, I proudly cast a vote for comprehensive health care reform, because it will expand quality health care coverage to millions of Californians while ending denial of treatment for pre-existing conditions. Under the plan, nearly 500,000 10th Congressional District residents could see their employer-provided coverage expanded to include no co-pays for preventative medicine, and oral, vision and hearing benefits could be available for all children. 36,000 uninsured district residents will obtain coverage; more than 13,000 small businesses in the district could receive tax credits to help expand coverage to employers; and up to 1,400 of our families will avoid bankruptcy.

I have also hit the ground running on job creation, meeting with members, staff, business and labor leaders, and experts on strategies to help rebuild our economy and reignite our region’s innate entrepreneurial spirit. Seven days after being sworn into office, my office held its first town hall in Livermore where over 100 residents attended. The same day, I met with transportation officials to discuss ways to help improve our region’s transportation systems. The stimulus package passed by Congress helped save us from the brink of economic ruin and created and preserved thousands of jobs in our district, but more can be done.

Please attend one of my upcoming town halls. Your input on the issues that impact our district will influence my policies and priorities in the months and years ahead.

Sincerely,
Congressman John Garamendi
