Congressman Garamendi’s Statement on former FBI Director James Comey’s Testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee

June 8, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC –Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, CA), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement in response to former FBI Director James Comey’s sworn testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee:

“Comey’s written testimony and his subsequent oral testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee validate the need for the ongoing investigation as to whether President Trump committed obstruction of justice. Today’s testimony describes Trump’s attempts to secure Comey’s loyalty, which is a completely inappropriate request to make of an FBI Director. The testimony indicates that the President sought to persuade Comey not to pursue the investigation into General Flynn. And President Trump said he fired Comey because he was displeased with Comey’s pursuit of the investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Moscow.”

“There is no doubt that a complete criminal investigation by former FBI Director Mueller is necessary, and that an independent bipartisan investigation must begin immediately.”
