Congressman Garamendi’s Statement on President Obama’s Executive Order Requiring Background Checks

January 6, 2016
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, Davis, Yuba City) issued the following comment on President Obama’s Executive Order on gun safety background checks:
“Universal background checks are overwhelmingly supported by the American public,” said Congressman Garamendi. “While only an act of Congress can guarantee universal background checks and fully close the gun show loophole, President Obama’s Executive Orders will respect the rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment, expand background checks on gun purchases, step up enforcement of existing gun laws, and provide $500 million for mental health services.”
