Foreign Policy

I believe that America’s reputation in the world is best strengthened by having a strong and capable military, smart diplomacy, and a commitment to human rights, democracy, and cooperation. As a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer who served in rural Ethiopia in the 1960s, I know that an American hand extended in friendship can shape hearts and minds. America can do much to eradicate hunger and disease, and it’s important to recognize that desperation and hopelessness are kindling for extremism and violence.

As a Member of the House Armed Services Committee, I will continue to support our military and services like the Peace Corps while working with our allies across the globe to achieve peace and security in our times.
