Congressman John Garamendi Hails Award of $816 million in Proposition 1 Funding to Sites Reservoir

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman John Garamendi, a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, applauded today’s decision by the California Water Commission to award $816 million in Proposition 1 funding to Sites Reservoir.

“When California voters passed Proposition 1 to fund water infrastructure throughout the state, projects like Sites Reservoir are exactly what they had in mind,” said Garamendi. “As a proud supporter of Sites Reservoir, I am pleased by today’s decision by the California Water Commission to award $816 million - a substantial amount of funding - to advance Sites Reservoir.”

“There is certainly more to be done to get this project across the finish line, but today marks a significant milestone and brings us one step closer to a more reliable water supply for farms, wildlife and cities. I applaud the California Water Commission for this wise funding decision and as well as the Sites JPA for their continued hard work. “

The investment in Sites Reservoir will add 500,000 acre-feet per year of usable water to the state’s water system, representing two thirds of the total amount of storage being created by Proposition 1 funding. It will also be the most cost-effective state-funded water storage
