Congressman Garamendi’s Statement on Release of Senate Bill to Repeal the Affordable Care Act

June 22, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC –Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, Davis, Yuba City CA), who served for eight years as California’s Insurance Commissioner, issued the following statement in response to the introduction of the Senate version of TrumpCare:

“President Trump admitted that the health care bill passed by the House a few weeks ago was mean. This current bill, written in secret by a handful of Republican Senators, is just as bad, if not worse. It guts Medicaid, reduces Medicare benefits, increases premiums for middle-class families, and raises deductibles, all while cutting $883 billion in in taxes for America’s wealthiest. President Trump and the rest of America’s 400 wealthiest people don’t need a $7 million annual tax cut at the expense of everyday Americans.”

“Just like the House bill before it, this bill will kick millions of people off their health insurance just so the rich can get a tax cut. That’s not how America should work, and I urge the Senate to reject it.”
