Garamendi Issues Statement on the Death of World Central Kitchen Workers in Gaza
“I am outraged by the killing of seven humanitarian aid workers from World Central Kitchen, including an American citizen, in Gaza. I extend my deepest condolences to their families and loved ones as they grieve this unthinkable loss.
“As famine looms in Gaza, with much of the population already starving, it is more important than ever to protect humanitarian aid workers who do critical work. Israel must stop their campaign of violence and intimidation toward these workers.
"This issue is deeply personal to me. As a Peace Corps volunteer in Ethiopia, I witnessed firsthand what happens when people do not have reliable access to food. The impending famine in Gaza is entirely preventable, and I strongly urge Israel to commit to a lasting ceasefire and allow the flow of humanitarian aid. In addition, Hamas must return all hostages taken on October 7th.
“The United States must demand an end to the suffering in Gaza before agreeing to send any more money or bombs to Israel.”
