Congressman Garamendi's 2010
High School Art Competition Gallery

On June 1st, 2010, Congressman John Garamendi held his first High School Art Competition at his office in Walnut Creek. More than 30 high school students throughout the district participated. The top six finishers' artwork is below.

Congratulations to this year’s winner, Ho Jae Lee, a senior from Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon, for his "Hush Don’t Make a Sound". Ho Jae plans to pursue an art career and will attend the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena this fall. As the contest winner, he will receive three round-trip plane tickets to Washington, DC, where he and his parents are invited to a reception at the Capitol with young artists from all across the country. In addition, his painting will be on display in the Capitol building for an entire year.

"It's exciting to see so much talent in the 10th Congressional District," Congressman Garamendi said. "The artists in this competition have a bright future, and I look forward to learning about their triumphs in the years to come. Congratulations to this year's competition winner, Ho Jae Lee, and the other young artists who placed, including Sanaz Khosravi, Lauren Covey, Effy Kim, James Marchetti III, and Maile Musgrove."

A special thank you to our judges for this year's competition: Kathy Klein, a local artist from Lamorinda, Conchita Villalba, a graphic arts teacher at the Center for Adaptive Learning in Concord, and Darcie Kent, an artist and vintner from Livermore.
