El Cerrito

Incorporated as a city in 1917, El Cerrito absorbed many refugees from the 1906 San Francisco fire. The city is mostly residential and highly educated; over half its residents hold a bachelor's or advanced degree. Residents are connected to the broader region through BART, bus lines, and Interstate 80. Outdoors recreational opportunities abound and include the Ohlone Greenway, which runs the length of the city, the 80 acre tree-lined Hillside Park, and nearby Tilden and Wildcat Canyon regional parks.

According to the 2008 U.S. Census Department estimate, 22,222 people live in El Cerrito.
